This Friday, May 12th, Urbandale J-Hawks Boys Soccer Team will host the Dowling Catholic Boys Soccer Game at Frerichs Stadirum for a 7:30 pm match. The two teams have come together to raise awareness about pediatric cancer and have organized a fundraiser to benefit the Cancer Kickers Soccer Club.
The Cancer Kickers Soccer Club is a nonprofit organization that is committed to providing comfort, community, and connections to kids battling cancer. We ensure that no child is left to play alone on the field, and we empower our teammates and their families with the resources and support that they need. At the end of the day, Cancer Kickers Soccer Club is about more than simply sharing the same colors on a jersey — it’s about being part of a team.
The Dowling Catholic varsity soccer team has been directly affected when a varsity player's little sister was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma last Fall. After eight months of treatment, Ava finally rang the bell on April 14th. The family is grateful for the continuous support of the soccer community through events like this that help benefit children and their families.
Urbandale J-Hawk, Cole Hanson, is a Cancer Kickers Soccer Club teammate and was diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma in February of 2023. Cole is a Junior at Urbandale and serves as goalkeeper for the J-Hawks varsity soccer team. Cole has recently finished chemotherapy and his doctors have given him reason to have a positive outlook. Cole is back on the pitch and remains passionate about advocating for kids with cancer through both volunteering and fundraising.
Please help us meet our fundraising goal of $600 to supply two soccer kits for kids kicking cancer on and off the pitch.
